1. The short version
Housepour keeps your bar on your device. There is no account, and we run no servers that receive your data. Your bottles, recipes, notes, shopping list, and drink log are stored only on your phone, and we never see them. We never sell, rent, or trade your personal data, and the app has no analytics.
The free version of Housepour shows one banner ad, served by Google AdMob. To show ads, Google receives information about your device and how you interact with the ads (described in section 4); it never receives your bar, recipes, or anything else you put in the app. Ads are only personalized if you allow it, and Housepour Pro removes ads entirely. Beyond ads, the only information that leaves your device is what’s needed to process an optional Housepour Pro purchase.
2. What stays on your device
| Data | Why | Where it lives |
|---|---|---|
| Your bars and bottles (names, brands, sizes, fill levels, notes, ratings, tags, favorites) | The core function of the app | On your device only |
| Recipes you create, favorites, recipe notes, and ratings | Your personal recipe book | On your device only |
| Shopping list and drink log | Planning purchases and remembering what you’ve made | On your device only |
| Label scans | Reading a bottle label to fill in its brand and type | Processed on your device; never uploaded |
| Settings, including your answer to the drinking-age question | Remembering your preferences | On your device only |
None of this is shared with our advertising partner or used to choose the ads you see.
3. Housepour Pro purchases
Housepour Pro is an optional one-time purchase made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. We never see or collect your payment details. To confirm and restore your purchase, the app uses RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. RevenueCat receives an anonymous, randomly generated app user ID, your purchase history for Housepour, and the technical information any app request carries (such as device type, operating system, app version, and IP address). This information is used only to confirm that you own Housepour Pro. It is not linked to your name or email, and it is not used for advertising or tracking. See RevenueCat’s privacy policy.
Apple and Google process purchases under their own privacy policies.
4. Advertising
If you use the free version, Housepour shows a single banner ad above the tab bar on the Bar, Drinks, and List screens. Recipes, Settings, and the rest of the app never show ads. The ads are provided by Google AdMob. Housepour Pro removes them: for Pro users the ads SDK is never started, so no ad requests are made and you never see the consent or tracking prompts.
When the free version requests an ad, Google’s Mobile Ads SDK collects and receives, under Google’s own policies:
- Device and network information, such as device model, operating system and version, language, and IP address, from which Google may estimate your general (not precise) location.
- Device identifiers: on iOS, Apple’s advertising identifier (IDFA) only if you allow tracking; on Android, your device’s advertising ID unless you have deleted it or opted out; and an app-scoped identifier used for frequency capping, fraud prevention, and measurement.
- Ad interactions, such as which ads were shown and whether you tapped them.
- Diagnostics, such as SDK performance and crash information.
Google uses this information to deliver and measure ads, to prevent fraud and abuse, and, only where you have allowed it, to show ads personalized to your interests. We receive only aggregated reports (such as how many ads were shown), not information about you. Because Housepour is intended only for adults, ads are limited to content suitable for mature audiences. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and Google’s privacy policy.
Your choices:
- iPhone: Housepour asks for permission to track through Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose Ask App Not to Track, the IDFA is not shared and ads are not personalized using it. You can change this at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can delete your advertising ID or opt out of ads personalization in your device’s Settings → Google → Ads (the exact path varies by device).
- EEA, UK, and Switzerland: Housepour shows Google’s consent form before any ads are requested, and ads are only personalized if you consent. If you don’t consent, Google may still show non-personalized ads, which rely on contextual information rather than your interests.
- Anywhere: you can manage Google ad personalization at My Ad Center, or buy Housepour Pro to remove ads altogether.
Whichever you choose, you see the same number of ads; your choice only affects whether they are personalized.
5. Camera, photos, and label scanning
Housepour asks for camera or photo-library access only when you scan a bottle label, either by taking a picture or by choosing one you already took. Label scanning uses Google’s ML Kit text recognition, which runs entirely on your device: the photo and the text read from it are not sent to us, to Google, or to any advertiser, and Housepour doesn’t attach the photo to your bottle or keep it in your bar. Google’s ML Kit software may send Google limited, anonymous diagnostic and performance information (such as device type and how long recognition took) to maintain the feature; it does not include your photos or the text on them. See Google’s ML Kit terms. You can deny camera or photo access and still use the rest of the app.
6. Backups
You can export a backup of your bar as a file through your device’s share sheet. That file goes wherever you choose to send or save it (for example Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, or email) and is handled under that service’s policies. We never receive a copy.
7. Links and email
Links in the app to this site open in your browser or an in-app browser. This website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless and collects no personal data. If you email us, we use your message and address only to reply.
8. Deleting your data
Because your bar lives on your device, deleting the app deletes all of it. There is no account to close. To have RevenueCat’s purchase record for your anonymous app user ID deleted, email [email protected]; you would then need to restore your purchase through the App Store or Google Play to use Housepour Pro again. Information Google collected to serve ads is held by Google, not by us; you can review and delete activity associated with your Google Account at My Activity, and reset or delete your device’s advertising identifier as described in section 4.
9. Your rights
We do not sell personal information for money. However, when you allow personalized ads, the information Google’s ads SDK collects may be used for cross-context behavioral advertising, which some U.S. state laws (including California’s) treat as a “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. You can opt out at any time by denying tracking on iPhone or opting out of ads personalization on Android (section 4), or by buying Housepour Pro. You also have the right to know what personal information is collected and to request its deletion, and we will not treat you differently for exercising these rights.
EU and UK residents have rights under GDPR to access, correct, restrict the processing of, object to the processing of, port, and erase their personal data, and to withdraw consent at any time. We rely on your consent for personalized advertising and on our legitimate interest in funding the free version for non-personalized advertising. Since almost everything stays on your device, most of these rights are exercised directly in the app or in your device settings. For anything else, email [email protected]; we respond within 30 days.
10. Security
Data on your device is protected by your device’s own security. Information sent to RevenueCat, Apple, and Google is encrypted in transit (TLS).
11. Age
Housepour is about alcoholic drinks and is intended only for adults of legal drinking age where they live. It is not directed at children or anyone under the legal drinking age, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. Ads in Housepour are not child-directed. If you believe someone under age has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Changes and contact
If we make a material change to this policy we will update the date above and, for significant changes, note it in the app. Questions? Email [email protected] or call (509) 381-3920.
